About

I’m Simon Evans and I am an artist, game designer and entrepreneur. I founded and run a game design studio, Karno, which makes immersive, play experiences. We’re currently working on Wolves, a rewilding game that uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality to set players the challenge of re-wilding their world.

This sub-domain is where I publish writing on art, games and digital technologies, and where I show more personal work. You can get in touch with me via the Karno contact form.

Work & Play

My entire life has been an attempt to escape this bleak dichotomy, mostly unsuccessfully. Like most people, I hated school and went from there. I’ve thrown myself into sport (kayaking), drugs (briefly) and rock climbing (never bold), as ways of dealing with the mundanity of a nine to five, with weekends off. I studied art with similar aims. That and the intention to meet a girl (I did). But the dreary reality is that art is what other artists agree is art. It’s a belief system and like all belief systems vulnerable to manipulation, groupthink and coercion. However, I like to think of other ambitions for the discipline. I want to deny the work/play dichotomy, to re-imagine, no, to re-experience life. Art practice for me is inseparable from radical activism, from deep intervention in work and people’s everyday lives.
